One of my favorite quotes is from The Hotel New Hampshire – “Life is hard but art is fun.” I enjoy creating characters and themes thatcelebrateseveryone’s uniqueness!!! They are original, fun and uniquely whimsical with a colorful story to tell… a story that invites us to ponder, be a part of and ultimately give a special ending with our own imaginary touch!!! So, as all my characters that pop up in my paintings would say, “Love and Celebrate Your Uniqueness!!!” I’ve been blessed to have had great art teachers and mentors! In high school, I was honored with 5 Gold Keys & 8 Honorable Mentions in the National Scholastic Art Awards and presidential scholarships to both the Kansas City and the Chicago Art Institute. I eventually switched my major to psychology and became a therapist but along the way my artwork was featured in Austin, Chicago, Little Rock, Phoenix and New York City. In 2002, I was commissioned to do The Nutcracker poster for The Savannah Symphony and Ballet South that later led to other storybook ballets. In 2012, I wrote and illustrated Lu Lu, The Blue Flamingo, which combined my backgrounds in both psychology and art and was featured on Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation to help empower youth in accepting their uniqueness.
