SANDY NEWELL

Watercolor

  • Sandy was born and raised in Chicago and currently resides nearby in Scottsdale. She works primarily in watercolor, using a pouring technique to create unexpected textures and reactions. Sandy received her BFA from the University of Illinois, and her MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. She began her career as a graphic designer and successfully operated her own design studio for fifteen years. She also taught art at the local grade school for several years, learning as much from her students as they did from her. Most recently, Sandy has been able to fulfill her dream of becoming a full-time working artist. Her watercolors have been on display at the Phoenix Airport and Shemer Art Center as part of the Arizona Watercolor Association exhibitions.

Sandy’s “Wallflower” series of paintings explores the introvert in all of us. Quarantine and isolation have encouraged us to not only look forward and back, but also within.

  • I work primarily in watercolor, using a pouring technique to create unexpected textures and reactions.

  • Color, nature, textures, you name it. There is inspiration everywhere I look.
