ALLISON SHOCK
“Always Eat From Art“

Ceramics

  • From her tiny Three Star Owl studio in south Scottsdale Arizona, Allison Shock creates idiosyncratic clay work inspired by the natural world, particularly the Sonoran Desert where she lives. Ranging from sculptural effigy pieces to “Beastieware” for your table, textured like scales, fur, or feathers, with tails for handles and paws for feet, all of Allison’s work is made using traditional and low-tech methods, mostly without a potter's wheel.

"If your dinnerware looks like it might jump off the table or bite, then I've done my job.”

  • I make functional and sculptural clay pieces drawing on my interest in archeology and the natural world.

  • When I was very little my father (an architect) taught me two-point perspective, gave me a ream of white perforated printer paper, and a handful of colored pencils from his office supply closet. From then on art was part of my life.
