MONIKA LECOMTE GLOVICZKI

  • Painting is the essence of my life, an unexplained necessity to express something I feel or imagine. It is like a journey to the deeper layers of the self, beneath the everyday banalities. It is silent music played by colors. As Georgia O’Keeffe would say: “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way - things I had no words for.” My international journey brought me from Poland to France, and finally to the United States, where I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming an accomplished and happy artist.

  • Initially inspired by the art of the Impressionists, I try to modernize my paintings by incorporating elements of abstraction and reportage. While I often approach my paintings with a scene in mind, I allow my instincts and imagination to take over. My artwork can be described as a form of “silent music,” a symphony played by pigments to form a harmony of composition and color, a song describing deeper layers and moving beyond the banalities of everyday life to reveal what’s extraordinary.

  • Music and imagery are my strongest sources of inspiration. They ignite deep emotions and stir vivid mental pictures. The rhythm or mood of a melody often directs the movement of my brush or palette knife, while a landscape or photograph offers visual themes, color palettes, and compositional ideas that influence the direction of my art.

I always create with music, mixing inspiring sounds with an image or vision of a painting. I let the music, and the paints talk with each other, and I feel like a reporter of this conversation, fully immersed in the flow state. The painting’s vision evolves constantly as I work on the piece until I feel satisfied with the result or too tired to continue. Another day might then bring the solution. I play with the photographs of works in progress, trying different angles, upside down, zooming in and out, and other colors, including black and white versions. Very often, it takes me months to finish a painting, and I have several ongoing projects in my studio.
