Silk Painting- Landscapes
-
As a silk painter, I’m captivated by the interplay of light, color, and movement found in nature. My work is rooted in traditional Japanese silk painting techniques, enhanced by a contemporary aesthetic that embraces saturated jewel tones, shimmering metallic outlines, and unexpected textures. Using gutta resists, salt, sugar, and alcohol, I create vibrant, layered landscapes and botanicals that celebrate beauty, wonder, and joy.
Each piece begins as a meditation—an emotional response to a moment in nature, a memory, or a song. I see my paintings as windows into places that feel both familiar and imagined—glowing horizons, flowering fields, or serene waters that evoke peace and possibility. Raised in the Bay Area and deeply connected to both Eastern and Western cultures, my work bridges these influences through symbolism, color, and form.
I aim to uplift and inspire through my art, offering viewers a sense of joy, calm, and connection. Whether displayed in a home, gallery, or public space, my hope is that each piece invites pause, reflection, and delight.

I create vibrant silk paintings using traditional Japanese techniques paired with contemporary surface design. Each work is outlined with black or metallic gutta resist and painted with richly layered, steam-set dyes. The silk is then carefully wrapped around a gallery canvas—not glued—so the fabric retains its natural softness, dimensionality, and glow. Finished with a protective archival varnish, the paintings radiate color and texture, evoking the spirit of stained glass or cloisonné.

I’m inspired by the way light dances across a landscape—colors in bloom, clouds shifting at dusk, the quiet strength of natural forms. These moments linger and often become the emotional spark for a new painting.
My connection to both Eastern and Western cultures also deeply informs my work. I was raised in California, surrounded by artistic influences and my mother’s deep admiration for Japanese art, cuisine, and design. Our home was filled with the beauty and simplicity of that tradition. Later in life, I married into a Japanese family, and those early impressions blossomed into a lifelong respect for the elegance, symbolism, and balance found in traditional Japanese aesthetics.
Blending these two worlds feels natural to me—it’s where my heart and heritage meet. But more than anything, I’m inspired by the desire to create something beautiful that brings joy. If my work evokes a memory, a sense of wonder, or a quiet moment of peace, then I know I’ve created something meaningful.
