KENNETH NAIFF

Astrophotography

  • As a small boy, in England, I observed orbiting Sputnik through a small telescope in 1957 – the start of my life-long interest in astronomy. During my 24 year tenure at General Instrument Corporation as a Senior Director of Technology I was the recipient of numerous technology awards including 7 U.S. patents. I’ve been a guest speaker at numerous civic groups, photography clubs and universities including the New Mexico State University at Las Cruses, and Wichita State University.

The appeal of astrophotography is multi-faceted: I enjoy camping out under moonless and cloudless skies in remote locations while viewing and photographing deep space. The technical challenges and complexity of capturing very faint objects appeals to my engineering interests and background. I hope my images will provoke questions, especially from children, so they may gain some insight into the awe-inspiring objects, which our eyes cannot grasp in the star-studded Milky Way and beyond.

  • Clear, dark night skies, specialized cameras, telescopes, and mounts as well as sophisticated software are the essential elements to create scientifically accurate and artistically stunning images of deep space objects.

  • The Universe is inspirational. These vast expanses of space contain deep space objects ... nebulae, galaxies, star clusters ...that are colorful, dynamic, and thought-provoking. Knowing I can capture this beauty for others to enjoy is what inspires me.
